SOUND GAME PICNIC (2020)
In collaboration with Hibernation Festival, SOUND GAME PICNIC is a multi-livestream online event performed in and around Cockatoo Island for 6 hours.
the music box project perform a series of fun, experimental games devised by the collective, exploring sound in response to the site – music made from maps, sonic scavenger hunts, notes on isolation, adventuring sound keepers/seekers, droning chase sequences, live drawing/scoring and more.
SHALLOW LISTENING (2019-2021)
awarded ‘excellence in experimental music’ (apra/amcos & amc art music awards) and premiered at bendigo international festival of exploratory music, shallow listening immerses listeners into a world built by the music box project.
sonic pillars (works by Moya Henderson, Joseph Franklin, Jaslyn Robertson, Jasmin Wing-Yin Leung and elizabeth jigalin) are organically interwoven with performative sinew. Every stage change, movement, sound, action and visual is intentional and we are always performing.
CUSHION CONCERT (2019)
“construct a garbage heap. on this heap is contained the residue of notated music….from your position in, on, or under the heaps, search around for something to play…” - david ahern, reservoirs
the music project box constructs and lives inside a garbage heap of five years worth of notations from our past projects, performances and explorations. rustles of notations, rumbles of sound, interjections and interactions.
This concert was presented at BIFEM 2019.
PLAYSHOP (2018)
a week of learning, failing, listening, experimenting, playing, growing, working, making and sharing in lots of music together.
playshop was a temporary, open, sonic home for our friends, collaborators and mentors. we are grateful for the time spent during this week with damien ricketson, moya henderson, jassy robertson, jasmin wing-yin leung, danica hobden, timothy green and james hazel.
PHOTOPLAY (2018)
new soundtracks devised and performed live alongside new silent film experiments by local and international creative filmmakers.
OPERA + ORNAMENTS (2017)
sonic diptych inspired by artwork at conny dietzschold gallery. two duos within the collective collaboratively compose two new works - opera + ornaments.
SUSTAIN (2016)
six miniatures, each beginning with a sustained sound for additive ensemble, composed by six local composers - jane aubourg, harry burgess, milan monk, elizabeth jigalin, kezia yap and joseph franklin.
PROJECT: IN 4 (2015)
a collage of 40 cells composed by 40 composers from around the world, curated by the music box project to form one work.
